Following her tragic death
several years ago, the Children’s Protection Council and Mrs.
Sigmon’s family initiated the Erlene Sigmon Fund to honor this
long-time volunteer. Supervised by Child Protective Services of
Catawba County Social Services, this fund enables child protection
social workers to respond to such emergencies as special
medications for children, clothing, summer camp tuition, special
educational expenses, and dental care.
Gifts may be sent to the Erlene Sigmon Fund c/o Children’s
Protection Council, P.O. Box 1415, Hickory, NC 28603. If you wish
it to be a memorial or an honorarium, please be sure to include
names and addresses so acknowledgements can be sent.
The Children’s Protection Council is committed to educating our
community about the problems of child abuse and neglect. In order
to do this, we have created a Speaker’s Bureau, with experts in
various fields. Presentations can be made to civic groups,
organizations, church classes, etc., in many mission-related
topics such as:
- Positive Parenting
- Alternatives to Spanking
- Child Safety
- Indicators of Abuse and
Neglect

If you would like a program in
one of these topics or another of your choosing, please

How to
Report Child Abuse |
If you suspect a child has been
a victim of physical abuse, neglect, and/or sexual abuse, you

Department of Social Services)
828-324-9111
24-hours a day
OR call a local or state
law enforcement agency.
|
An investigation and assessment
will begin within 24 to 72 hours of your call. Anyone who files a
child abuse or neglect report is immune from civil or criminal
liability if the report is made in “good faith” and “without

wish. |
